Dr. David Fernández Puyana is a practitioner and international lawyer specialized in international human rights law, international relations, peace studies, United Nations and civil society movements. He was serving as legal and technical consultant at the Permanent Mission of Costa Rica to the United Nations in Geneva and assistant to the Chairperson-Rapporteur of the UN Open Ended Working Group on the right to peace and the OHCHR on the right to peace in its 30º Human Rights Council session (September - October 2015). He is now serving as senior expert on peace at the UNESCO Liaison Office in Geneva. He is member of the Advisory Board of the Chair on Solidary Economy at the University Abat Oliba (Barcelona)

As representative of UNESCO Etxea, the Spanish Society for International Human Rights Law and the International Association of Peace Messenger Cities, he has been the Director of the NGO Campaign on the Human Right to Peace over five years. He has also served as legal assistant to International Council on Human Rights Policy, the Catalan Red Cross and the Human Rights Office of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Spain. He obtained the title of Doctor in Law with European Mention by the University of Pompeu Fabra (Spain). He also holds a LLM on Human Rights Law by the University of Essex (UK), an MA on Human Rights Protection by the University of Alcala de Henares (Spain) and MA on International Relations by the University of Pompeu Fabra. He is also graduated in Law, Philosophy and Education Science by the University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra. He obtained a human rights award by the School of Law of the American University in Washington DC.
