Gill Ringland’s career has spanned academic, industrial and professional services worlds, taking in physics, software and information technology, strategy and future thinking in turn. She has been active in five start-ups and was responsible for building a £ bn business over five years for ICL. She was a Director, CEO and a Fellow of SAMI from 2002 to 2017. She is now a Director of Ethical Reading and has become a SAMI Fellow Emeritus.

She started to use scenarios when responsible for strategy at ICL, and as a result wrote the amazon.com bestseller "Scenario Planning", used at Harvard Business School. She has published over 100 papers in peer review journals, and consulted widely as a Fellow of SAMI, to clients in the public, private and third sectors. Recent clients include the Academy of Medical Sciences, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Commission, Grant Thornton, the Law Society, and Universities UK.

She has a B.Sc., M.Sc., F.B.C.S, is a graduate of Stanford University’s Senior Executive Program, an ICL Fellow and a Fellow of the World Academy of Art & Science. She is a Liveryman of the City of London through the Information Technologists. She was a Member of the Science Research Council’s Computing Science Committee and a Council Member of the Economic and Social Research Council. She has been a Member of five European Commission High Level Expert Groups, including the European Forum for Forward Looking Activities (responsible for advice on Horizon 2020) and most recently Research, Innovation and Science Policy Experts (RISE).
